Exciting news! Against all odds, the person who once swore off running the London Marathon ever again is lacing up their shoes for the 2024 race!
Am I a bit crazy? Absolutely, but this time, the motivation is different. Instead of relying on the ballot, as I did last year, I received an irresistible offer. I’ve been chosen as one of the four runners representing World Horse Welfare—an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
My connection with WHW is profound. From my childhood days actively supporting them as the ILPH to my time as a zookeeper at Colchester Zoo, where I had the privilege of meeting three remarkable horses—Meg, Bruce, and Homer. These equine companions, rehomed by the league to the zoo, each came with a unique and compelling story that I’m eager to share with you.
Embarking on the marathon journey with WHW comes with its challenges, but the cause is close to my heart, and the stories of Meg, Bruce, and Homer serve as powerful inspiration for this extraordinary undertaking. Stay tuned for more updates on my marathon training, experiences, and the incredible bond between humans and horses that fuels my determination to run for World Horse Welfare.
